The Joe Brown shop is one of the longest established outdoor shops in the area. In 1966 Joe opened the Llanberis shop with his wife Val and it quickly earned the reputation of being one of the best specialist climbing equipment and outdoor gear shops in the UK.
Joe Brown, who still lives in Llanberis, was considered the foremost rock climber and mountaineer of his generation, and perhaps the greatest all round mountaineer ever.
These days the shop maintains a vibrant presence in the village and prides itself on providing honest and personal advice, as well great ranges of mountaineering, rock climbing, ice climbing, expedition and alpine climbing equipment; they also stock an excellent range of fell running shoes.

V12 Outdoor is renowned as one of the best outdoor technical stores in the UK. It is owned and run by a group of local climbers and outdoor enthusiasts who took over the business in 2003. The shop stocks an impressive range of technical hardware (including an extensive range of products from Llanberis based equipment manufacturer, DMM), the biggest range of rock shoes in the UK (over 50!), plus all the latest men’s and women’s crag wear. There is also a Mammut in store shop, selling an extensive range of clothing and equipment from the prestigious Swiss outdoor brand.
Set in the world famous climbing village of Llanberis, V12 Outdoor has strong connections to the North Wales climbing scene; director, Simon Panton also runs the guidebook production company: Ground Up (groundupclimbing.com) and edits the northwalesbouldering.com website.
