Once he retired, Arthur rekindled his interest in woodwork and concentrated on creating walking sticks. He has built a shed and has the necessary tools all in the bottom of his garden, as he is left-handed. He has various customers, and is very bust creating sticks daily. There's a particular way to create any walking stick and Arthur has created his own device to straighten the wood. He usually buys his supplies on line and he can create various sticks out of various types of wood. He has quite a collection of walking sticks, from traditional sticks, to sticks shaped like a shoe, and shaped like a fish, only to name a few!

Dewi Jones

Dewi Jones was born in the parish of Llanfachreth, Dolgellau in 1938.  After leaving Dolgellau Grammar School, like his father, he went to work for the Forestry Commission.  Then in 1956 he had to go into the army for two years and then returned to the forestry work until 1971.  He decided to go to Australia at the end of the year with his wife and two sons.  He stayed there for two and a half years, but probably missed the old country!

Dewi then worked as a carpenter until he retired four years ago.   He went to live in another area in 1974, at Ceunant, Llanrug and worked for four and a half years at Dinorwig.  He then travelled to various locations in Gwynedd and beyond Offa’s Dyke.

Dewi worked at Holyhead about twelve years ago with a Scot who was a turner and a member of Gwynedd Woodturning Club.  This rekindled his interest in wood turning after many years.  Following his retirement, He now occupies himself with this craft.

Printed locally in Wales on Fair Wear cotton with eco friendly organic inks, It is super soft yet hard wearing, extremely comfortable and truly distinctive.  Liz Stringer conceived the idea of Dragon Babies in 2009 when she gave birth to her 5th surrogate baby, Isabelle. Even though Isabelle's parents are English, she was born here in Wales and  Liz wanted to buy her something wonderful to celebrate that fact.  Screen printing for Dragon Babies is done by Peris and Corr, Nantlle, who only work with eco friendly water based inks

Lizzie Mowatt

Lizzie is the owner of Tailored Teddies, a company which creates all sorts of teddies for customers across the country. These are sold locally at Criccieth Gallery too and Lizzie creates specific teddies for special occasions using about 300 pieces of mohair. It takes 15-20 hours to make one teddy. Lizzie has a commercial printing company on Porthmadog Industrial Estate too and customers can make photocopies and create business cards in the back of the toy shop on the High Street. Lizzie has a room above the shop where she makes the teddies and Shân meets all the teddies and wants to take her new special friend home with her!

Llechen Las

A variety of crafts are produced from slate.  The blue slate of Ffestiniog is usually used but sometimes the green and purple slate of Dyffryn Nantlle is used.  Signs, flower pots, table mats, coasters, cheese boards, wine racks, bowls and dog gravestones are made from slate and orders are taken for making personal presents.

Mr Alan D Hicks has worked in the Blaenau Ffestiniog slate works since 1970.  He started as an apprentice in Llechwedd quarry before moving along to work in the Gloddfa Ganol quarry until the year 2000.  His wife Ianto also worked with crafts at the Gloddfa quarry for about 5 years which has been of benefit to set up their business.  They started the Llechan Las business in 2003.

Origins

Dave Newbould, originally took pictures to record his mountaineering and gained interest in being more creative. Dave has lived in Snowdonia for over 25 years; he worked as an instructor and the Manager at the Outdoor Adventure Centre, Pensarn, and Llanbedr.

Origins was set up by him in 1993, which started with a range of just 18 different greetings cards and then developed to produce calendars and posters.

Rob Piercy

Established in 1986, the Rob Piercy Gallery is an artist-run gallery situated close to the centre of Porthmadog. The gallery has four exhibiting spaces surrounding a quiet courtyard. The building was converted into an art gallery in 1986, having previously been an old Water Board warehouse. The gallery features a large selection of Rob Piercy watercolours, limited edition and open edition prints as well as a large selection of greeting cards of his work. There is also a fine display of unique craftwork and jewellery. A member of the Royal Cambrian Academy and the Watercolour Society of Wales, Rob Piercy has been painting professionally since the early eighties. He trained as an art teacher and taught up to 1989, when he left to concentrate solely on his painting. A member of the Alpine Club of Great Britain, he is also an experienced mountaineer and has climbed throughout Europe. Naturally his favourite subject matter are the mountains and in particular his native Snowdonia. He is now recognised as one of the UK's premier mountain painters and he has work in public and private collections throughout the world. He has exhibited his work in several prestigious competitions throughout the UK, most notably in the Singer and Friedlander / Sunday Times Watercolour Competition where his work has been accepted for exhibition for the last ten years consecutively. He was Welsh Artist of the Year in 2002. In the year 2000 he was shortlisted for the £20,000 Garrick Milne Art Prize. Shân has exclusive entry to Rob Piercy's studio to learn more about him and his craft.

The Rocking Sheep Company

We produce hand crafted, premium quality, life-size rocking rams, ewes & lambs...manufactured from natural sustainable materials sourced here in Wales.  

Made from natural, sustainable materials.  Genuine fleece, machine washable.  Also made in full size ram or ewe styles.  The rocking sheep are an ideal woolly alternative to the rocking horse.  Simon Wolfers had the idea of making rocking sheep while living in Rhydymain, Bala and seeing sheep grazing in the fields from his window.  Here he saw the option to create a rocking sheep instead of a horse in 1992.  He moved to live in Barmouth and then to Llanbedr with his business located in Harlech since 2003.

Tom Gloster

Tom creates his pottery from his workshop in Glynllifon Park. He is originally form Birmingham, but has learnt Welsh as he has lived in and out of the country over the years.  Tom studied an 'Applied Arts' course in Derby University for 3 years, working on woodwork, metalwork, glasswork and print but specialising in pottery in his final year.  Tom is now famous for his pottery, created here in the Nantlle Valley - selling his produce from the workshop and on the internet.

Trefor Owen

Maker of a range of clogs for dance, work and leisure.  Full repair / renovation service is also available.  Trefor Owen is the only remaining full time professional hand-maker of clogs still using purely traditional construction methods in Wales.

Trefor Owen started his career as a Teacher and later a Probation Officer / Social Worker.  He always had an interest in traditional dance since he was 6 years old.  He did research work on clogs in the mid 1970’s and noticed that only mass produced products were available.  He began making clogs as a hobby to begin with, until he started receiving orders, and then set up a business in 1978 in Yorkshire before moving to Cricieth.

All our framed pictures and canvas pictures of Abersoch and the Llyn peninsula are made with great love and care by myself and my assistant Nicole in our Abersoch workshop/gallery. We are proud that all our products and materials are of the highest quality and we hope that we can match this with our customer care.
